Steve Harvey was born on January 17, 1957, in Welch, West Virginia, the youngest of five children born to Eloise and Jesse Harvey.

Harvey harbored a passion for humor since childhood. A local deli owner assisted him in refining his speech and composure, enabling him to overcome his stutter and ultimately prove his doubters wrong.
In a conversation with Oprah, Harvey recounted the day his teacher scoffed at his ambition to become an entertainer, inspiring him to respond with grace and generosity.
“Every year, while the teacher was alive, I’d send her a TV for Christmas because I wanted her to see me,” he shared.
Harvey relocated with his family to Cleveland during his youth and graduated from Glenville High School in 1974.
Steve Harvey’s Struggles with Homelessness: Following high school, Harvey pursued studies at West Virginia University before engaging in various jobs, including insurance sales and postal work, without discovering his true calling.
Years later, he stumbled upon his passion for comedy. In 1985, Harvey embarked on his stand-up comedy journey, honing his craft and gradually ascending in the entertainment realm.
He secured his inaugural headlining spot at Bruce Ayer’s Comedy Club in Birmingham, Alabama.
Initially, Harvey encountered numerous setbacks. He confided to People that he endured a three-year period of homelessness, resorting to theft to survive.
Living out of his car, Harvey utilized a small cooler as a makeshift refrigerator and frequented rest-stop facilities for hygiene. His diet primarily consisted of sandwiches, and he resorted to siphoning gas from stations to reach comedy venues.
According to reports, Harvey earned approximately $3,000 during his debut year as a comedian. Amidst personal turmoil, including his divorce from Marcia, finalized in 1994, and strained relations with his daughter, Harvey remained resolute in his pursuit of success, driven by his familial responsibilities.
