Elton John thanks his fans for ’52 years of pure joy’ as he concludes his touring career
The “Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour” has concluded, leaving many of The Rocket Man’s fans feeling disappointed.
Sir Elton John’s unforgettable performance on June 8th at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, marked the singer’s final show as a touring artist, according to his website. Originally scheduled to conclude in 2021, the tour faced delays due to the global pandemic.
However, while this may signal the conclusion of an extraordinarily rich and impactful music career, Sir Elton John suggested that he may still make appearances in some capacity in the future.
Throughout the decades and over his illustrious career spanning more than fifty years, Sir Elton graced the world with brilliant music and unforgettable performances. According to his website, the shows from his final tour were attended by over 6 million people worldwide.
The decision to retire from touring was driven by John’s desire to prioritize spending time with his husband, David Furnish, and their two sons, Elijah and Zachary.
“We had children and had changed our lives, and in 2015, we sat down with their school schedule and we said, ‘I’m going to miss too much of this,'” the Your Song star shared with Cooper.
As anticipated, the final tour date was a deeply poignant occasion, filled with a myriad of emotions. It marked the conclusion of one of the most illustrious careers in the realm of music.
In a heartfelt Instagram post on Monday, Sir Elton wrote: “When we embarked on my final tour in 2018, I couldn’t have envisioned the twists and turns, the highs and lows that this tour – and the entire world – would experience in the next 5 years.
“And through every step of the journey, my fans have been there. You have stood by me, supported me, shown patience, and have continued to show up for every single show till the very end.”
