Sophia Loren, 84, Undergoes Astonishing Transformation for New Movie Role

The Italian title of the movie is “The Life Before Us,” and the 84-year-old actress portrays a character confined to a wheelchair for her role.

She was seen filming in Bari, Italy, donning a red dress adorned with a gold floral pattern, along with a red shawl or oversized scarf covering it. Her disheveled hair added to her transformation, making her hardly recognizable.

For the premiere of her son Edoardo Ponti’s new film, which features the celebrity, large audiences gathered at the theater.

Loren takes on the role of a woman who cares for the children of prostitutes in the Romain Gary novel-to-film adaptation.

Reports suggest that she will film scenes at the Pane e Pomodoro beach and on the San Nicola pier over the next month, with production scheduled to conclude in August.

This marks Loren’s first film appearance since providing the voice for a character in Cars 2 for non-English speaking countries in 2014. She did, however, produce a one-woman short called La Voce Umana.

The actress, the last surviving star of Hollywood’s Golden Age, launched her film career in 1950 at just 16 years old. She skyrocketed to fame after signing a five-picture deal with Paramount in 1956, which landed her roles in movies like It Started in Naples, The Pride and the Passion, and Houseboat.

She clinched the Oscar for her performance in Two Women in 1962, becoming the first actress to win for a foreign-language role.

Furthermore, she has been honored at the Venice and Cannes Film Festivals, securing five special Golden Globes, a BAFTA, and a Grammy Award.

Reflecting on aging in Hollywood during a 2016 interview with W magazine, she remarked, “You are always amazed. Actually, I didn’t think I’d live to be 80 when I was 20; you do.”
