The latest pictures of Tom Selleck confirms what many of us suspected… Check the comments
Hollywood is renowned as a realm where dreams can materialize, yet it’s acknowledged that only the most exceptional and fortunate individuals can navigate its complexities and sustain their presence.
Achieving success in the film industry is a rare feat, but thankfully, we have icons like Tom Selleck who have graced our screens for an extended period. Selleck’s breakthrough arrived with his portrayal of Thomas Magnum in the hit series Magnum, P.I., earning him five Emmy Award nominations and a win in 1985.
Before his ascent to stardom, Selleck tackled minor roles in both film and television, featured in various advertisements, and even made appearances on The Dating Game, an experience he found humbling and embarrassing. Recalling his participation, he remarked, “I lost. Twice. I wasn’t really funny or glib.”
Selleck then seized an opportunity with 20th Century Fox’s talent program, dedicating approximately two years before temporarily departing for six months of active military duty. Upon his return, he found himself dropped from the program, yet this setback failed to quash his determination.
Reflecting on his journey, Selleck shared with AARP, “The luckiest thing that happened was that I didn’t get a real job until I was 35. When I was 25, I looked 35 but sounded 15. There are a lot of very good actors who make it as younger leading men but don’t graduate — because the audience won’t accept them as grown up.”
Magnum P.I. proved to be a turning point, arriving at a time when he contemplated abandoning his pursuit of an acting career. “I think if Magnum hadn’t worked out, I’d never have worked again in this business,” he confessed in an interview with Closer Weekly.
Since 2010, Selleck has portrayed Frank Reagan, the commissioner of the New York City Police Department, in the television series Blue Bloods, marking another significant chapter in his illustrious career. The show’s enduring popularity is evident, as it has been renewed for its 13th season.
Throughout his extensive career, Selleck has often performed his own stunts, a decision that, over time, has taken a toll on his body.
“My back’s kind of messed up,” Selleck candidly admitted. “When you do stunts in movies—which I do a lot of—you take a risk, but you also spend a lot of time sitting. So you might complete a fight scene and then sit in your chair, and there’s no personal trainer telling you, ‘Okay, we’re ready to go, but Tom needs ten minutes of stretching and warm-up.'”
Reflecting on the consequences, he noted, “And I think the price… I see it with colleagues; I talk to them occasionally. You just see the cost of all those stunts. They weren’t that difficult, but I guess it’s the stop-and-go of everything.”
To maintain his physical well-being, the actor stays active by tending to his ranch in Ventura, California. Additionally, his deep passion for horses is evident, a love he has also instilled in his daughter.
Selleck’s enduring marriage to Jillie Mack for 35 years stands as a testament to their commitment to prioritizing family above all else.
In a 2012 interview with People, Selleck revealed, “I quit Magnum to have a family. It took a long time to get off the train, but I try very hard to have balance, and this ranch has helped me do that.”
His wife, Jillie, echoed this sentiment, expressing, “We both thought it was the best environment for Hannah to grow up.”
Here’s to Tom Selleck’s continued well-being.
