The couple subsequently welcomed their first daughter, Jessica, in 1975, followed by their second daughter, Jennifer, in 1976, and their youngest son, Jake, in 1978.

In 1988, Barr reunited with her first daughter, Brown, after enlisting the help of a private investigator to locate her.

However, just two years later, in 1990, Barr and her husband separated after 16 years of marriage. Afterward, she became romantically involved with Tom Arnold, but they split after four years without having children together.

In 1995, Barr married her third husband, Ben Thomas, and expanded her family with the arrival of her youngest child, son Buck. She and Thomas divorced in 2002, after which the actress focused on caring for her children.

The family faced controversy when Barr’s third daughter, Jenny Pentland, published a memoir titled “This Will Be Funny Later,” in which she revealed that the ABC series “Roseanne” was inspired by their family.

Pentland explained that her mother portrayed a fictionalized version of herself in the series, while the characters of Darlene and DJ were based on her sister Jessica and her brother Jake.

Pentland also disclosed that their family’s tumultuous experiences were omitted from the show’s later seasons, and she detailed her and her sister Jessica’s time in reform schools and psychiatric institutions during their teenage years.

However, she emphasized that writing her book was a form of self-imposed therapy and helped her empathize with her parents’ perspective.

Her Grandchildren A few months after the show’s cancellation, Barr revealed that the most significant change since its departure was the addition of her seven grandchildren, with whom she now spends a considerable amount of time.

The veteran star explained that the birth of her grandchildren has inspired her to encourage her children to prioritize proper treatment of their own kids.
