Parents chose to keep their baby out of the public eye to protect her from prying stares. Now, at the age of two, she blossoms into a beautiful child.

Parents always strive to protect their children, and these parents went above and beyond for their daughter. Little Vienna Brookshaw entered the world in April 2021 in the United Kingdom, bringing joy to her mom, Celine Casey. Upon first laying eyes on Vienna, Casey noticed a birthmark situated on her forehead, between her eyebrows.

The birthmark, known as congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN), posed no threat to Vienna’s health, but her mother harbored concerns that it might pose emotional challenges for her as she grew older. CMN is a condition characterized by the presence of a cluster of harmless pigment cells at birth, which could potentially grow larger as Vienna matured.

Vienna’s condition is indeed rare, and the extent to which the birthmark would grow as she aged remained unpredictable. Casey, her mother, was determined to ensure that Vienna did not face any challenges or difficulties as she progressed through life due to the birthmark.

Immediately, Casey sought medical advice on whether anything could be done about the birthmark, fearing that Vienna might resent her parents in the future if it remained untreated.

Expressing her parental love and concern, Casey shared, “We cherish witnessing her growth journey, eagerly anticipating the day when she can articulate her own thoughts. Regardless, we would love her unconditionally, birthmark or not.”

The decision to pursue the removal of Vienna’s birthmark stemmed from the discomfort Casey observed when people stared at her baby. This differential treatment prompted Casey’s resolve to seek corrective measures.

However, the National Health Service (NHS) declined the surgery, deeming it cosmetic rather than medically necessary. Undeterred, Casey initiated a fundraising campaign to finance the procedure, receiving overwhelming support with $52,000 raised within 24 hours. Despite this, escalating hospital costs, compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, necessitated an additional $27,000.

Returning to GoFundMe for assistance with the extra expenses, Casey elucidated, “Everyone harbors insecurities about their bodies. Although the doctor asserted it wouldn’t impact Vienna’s mental well-being presently, we perceived it differently, especially as she’s starting school at three; children are perceptive and notice such things.”

At two years old, Vienna underwent successful birthmark removal surgery, leaving behind only a faint scar on her forehead. Casey continues to provide updates on her daughter’s recovery, frequently marveling at her baby’s beauty.

Following the procedure, Vienna’s parents traveled to London for a follow-up with the surgeon to ensure her well-being and ascertain if further interventions were necessary. Presently, Vienna is thriving as a healthy two-year-old, devoid of any medical concerns.

Sending abundant well-wishes to little Vienna, may she enjoy enduring health and happiness! Feel free to share her inspiring journey with others to spread awareness and positivity.
