KEEPING HOWIE IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS

When you think of Howie Mandel, positivity and laughter immediately spring to mind.

According to IMDb, his journey into showbiz began serendipitously. While on vacation, his friends convinced him to take the stage during an amateur night at the Comedy Store on the L.A. Sunset Strip. It was there that a producer spotted him, setting him on the path to a remarkable career in entertainment.

Today, Howie Mandel stands as one of the most renowned figures in the entertainment industry. With a diverse portfolio spanning TV celebrity, screenwriter, actor, producer, director, entrepreneur, and popular game show panelist/host, Mandel has proven his versatility and excellence across various domains.

However, amidst his public success, Mandel recently made the brave decision to open up about his ongoing battle with anxiety, ADHD, and OCD. Despite his reputation for humor and lightheartedness, Mandel revealed the internal struggles he has faced throughout his life.

“I’m living in a nightmare,” he candidly confessed. “I work to ground myself. I love what I do and have a lovely family. However, I can also experience severe sadness from which I can never recover.”

The challenges escalated during the COVID-19 pandemic, as Mandel found himself grappling with heightened fears and anxieties during the lockdown. Despite these trials, he found solace in the fact that his immediate family remained unaffected by the virus.

Although he was diagnosed in his thirties, Mandel acknowledges that he has grappled with OCD and ADHD since childhood. Yet, he kept his struggles hidden for years, fearing that it would hinder his career prospects.

“It was comedy that helped me through the toughest times,” Mandel revealed. “My coping mechanism is finding the humorous. If I’m not smiling, I’m probably sobbing. And I’ve still held back on how horrible and dark it actually gets. In a way, comedy saved me.”

Mandel’s newfound openness about his mental health journey reflects his commitment to raising awareness and eradicating the stigma surrounding mental illness. By sharing his story, he hopes to inspire others to seek help and support.
