Imagine the thrill of graduating college with Jerry Seinfeld as your commencement speaker. For most Duke graduates, it was an unforgettable moment. However, some opted to walk out during his address simply because he is a Jewish comedian. This protest was paradoxical, as they forfeited a rare chance to listen to a renowned actor who critiques left-wing, politically correct absurdities.

The majority of students enthusiastically applauded Seinfeld. Walking out on such an occasion struck many as frivolous and disrespectful. Even if one doesn’t find him amusing, it’s crucial to honor your college and fellow graduates. Graduation is a celebration for all, not just a select few protesters. By departing, the protesters not only dampened their own experience but also disrupted the ceremony for others. All because they disagreed with the speaker? After years of diligent effort, the least they could do is remain for an hour and contribute to making the ceremony memorable for everyone.
