Contrary to initial assumptions, the dog was not attempting to unearth the grave. Rather, she had a more pressing and touching motive – she was seeking a safe refuge for her four cherished puppies.
The mourning dog was, indeed, a street dog who had recently given birth to these precious puppies. Weak and in need of shelter, the mother dog instinctively sought out the graveyard as a refuge for her newborns. Moved by the dog’s plight, Vesna approached her with food and water.
