Now, in addition to canes or service dogs, visually impaired individuals have access to the latest high-tech solution provided by an Austrian-based company called Tech-Innovation.
This company has developed shoes equipped with a built-in sensor that alerts visually impaired individuals, either through vibrations or sound, when an obstacle is detected.
The product, called InnoMake, activates its sensors when obstacles are detected within a range of four meters to half a meter. These sensors fit into a special slot within the shoes and come with a rechargeable battery that lasts up to a week before needing recharging, which takes just three hours to complete.
Both the shoes and the sensor come with a free app that allows users to adjust various settings, such as the distance at which they are alerted to objects.
Concerned about inclement weather, the creators have made the sensor water-resistant. Additionally, if users opt for the intelligent mode, the sensor deactivates when they are seated and reactivates when movement is detected.
Several shops across Austria offer the opportunity for users to try on the shoes before making a purchase.
