BARBRA STREISAND SAYS SHE ‘CAN’T LIVE IN THIS COUNTRY’ IF DONALD TRUMP WINS 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

In a passionate continuation from her song “Don’t Lie to Me,” Barbra Streisand once more criticizes former President Donald Trump, referring to him as a “tyrant” and expressing her intent to leave the United States if the Republican front-runner for 2024 secures re-election.

Describing the four-times-indicted Trump as “so stupid” and “ill-informed,” the acclaimed singer and actor recently conveyed to Stephen Colbert, “I cannot continue residing in this country if he assumes the presidency.”

But this isn’t the initial instance she’s issued such a warning, and she isn’t the sole celebrity who reneged on their promise to relocate to Canada, Europe, or even Jupiter following Trump’s victory in 2016.

Barbra Streisand, the esteemed 81-year-old, wasn’t aiming for humor when she remarked, “Yes, Mr. Trump, let’s make America great again. But first, get one thing straight: America was great – before you were elected.”

A long-standing Democratic advocate and fundraiser, she hasn’t held back in expressing her disdain for the former president, labeling him as “the Liar in Chief” and “the Groper in Chief.”

In 2018, the EGOT recipient (holding an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) released her 36th album, “Walls,” inspired by the reality TV star turned President of the United States.

In an interview with the Associated Press regarding her song, she expressed, “I aimed to address the sources of my profound sadness and heartbreak.” Streisand elaborated, expressing her discontent with the current state of affairs: “The assault on our democracy, our institutions, our founders – it’s unbearable. We’re engaged in a battle… We’re fighting for the soul of America.”

Her Grammy-nominated album, a musical critique of Trump’s governance, features tracks such as “Don’t Lie to Me,” inspired by distressing news that left her feeling “ill, hearing falsehoods, encountering utter madness.”

“I abhor deceit, and I believe our nation deserves honesty,” she remarked. With a touch of humor, she remarked, “I find it incomprehensible how he can fabricate so many falsehoods without a shred of remorse (evidently, he’s not Jewish).”

‘Art as a Catalyst for Change’

Reflecting on her political engagement, Streisand delves into the tensions between politicians and artists in her 2023 memoir, “My Name is Barbra.”

“Why does it provoke such ire when artists voice their opinions?” Streisand ponders. “Artists,” she asserts, “can act as a nation’s moral compass.” Their creations offer insight into the zeitgeist and sometimes challenge societal blind spots. They can amplify the voices of the marginalized, speaking out when others remain silent.

“That’s why art poses a threat to tyrants and despots.”

Despite her influential voice, it failed to sway the electorate.

‘World Gone Awry’

In anticipation of the 2016 elections, the star of “The Prince of Tides” lamented on Australia’s 60 Minutes, “He disregards facts. It’s unfathomable. I might just relocate to your country [Australia], if you’d have me, or Canada.”

However, Streisand wasn’t the sole A-list celebrity who asserted they would depart the U.S. if Trump assumed office.

According to The Wrap, comedian George Lopez quipped that he would return to Mexico: “If [Trump] wins, he won’t have to worry about immigration, we’ll all go back.”

Chelsea Handler, who initially expressed her determination to leave, reversed her decision the day after Trump’s victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton. “Yesterday, my staff reminded me that platforms and voices like mine are needed more than ever; leaving the country is quitting.”

Meanwhile, other celebrities devised more imaginative escape plans.

Comedian and talk show host Jon Stewart remarked, “I would consider getting in a rocket and going to another planet, because clearly this planet’s gone bonkers.”

Cher tweeted, “IF HE WERE TO BE ELECTED, IM MOVING TO JUPITER.”

Post-Trump After enduring “four years in a dark hole,” the star of 1983’s Yentl told People that President Joe Biden represents a positive change: “the country is certainly headed in the right direction.” The 2021 interview continues, “I love Biden. I love his compassion, his honesty, his integrity, his love of facts, not fiction.”

“Since 2016, we’ve been dragged down into the mud of Trump’s swamp. He has demolished our standing in the world with his laughable boasts and breathtaking ignorance,” she writes in an essay for Variety.

‘Restore the nobility of truth’ Now, Streisand is expressing her concerns about the upcoming elections and Trump as the clear Republican frontrunner.

During an episode of The Late Show, the legendary singer and actor informed host Stephen Colbert that she wouldn’t tolerate living in a country ruled by the man she earlier labeled “so stupid” and “so ill-informed.”

“I can’t live in this country if he becomes president,” Streisand said, mentioning that if she relocates, she’ll probably head to England because “I like England.”

It’s notable when celebrities use their platforms to address issues they feel passionate about. Their influence can draw attention to important topics and spark conversations among their followers and the general public. However, it’s also crucial for celebrities to be well-informed about the topics they speak on and to use their platforms responsibly.

In the case of Barbra Streisand’s comments about Donald Trump and her vision for a better America, she’s using her voice to express her perspective on political and social matters. Whether one agrees with her views or not, it’s a part of the democratic process for individuals, including celebrities, to engage in political discourse and advocate for change.

Regarding Streisand’s hypothetical consideration of moving to Canada due to political reasons, it reflects the impact of political developments on individuals’ lives and decisions.

As for the notion of Republicans proposing a wall along the border of Canada, it seems to echo the contentious debates surrounding border security and immigration policies, which have been prominent issues in recent years.

In conclusion, celebrities using their voices for meaningful causes can contribute to public discourse and encourage civic engagement. However, it’s essential for everyone, including celebrities, to engage thoughtfully and respectfully in these discussions, considering diverse perspectives and promoting constructive dialogue.
