Wisconsin Dairy Queen Puts Up ‘Politically Incorrect’ Sign, Owner Stands By His Decision
A note displayed on the front window of a Dairy Queen restaurant in Kewaskum, Wisconsin, has garnered attention and is currently trending online. The sign boldly declares the restaurant’s refusal to adhere to political correctness and proudly highlights its use of traditional holiday greetings such as “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Easter,” and “God Bless America.” Additionally, it expresses support for veterans by offering them free sundaes on Veterans Day, alongside the display of the US flag and words of gratitude for their service in the military.
The restaurant’s owner, Kevin Scheunemann, defended the sign, stating that it had been displayed for nearly four years to openly demonstrate his and the staff’s commitment to serving God and the country. Scheunemann explained that he posted the notice in response to a complaint from a patron regarding Christian music being played in the eatery. Since then, the sign has not caused any further issues.
However, recent attention on the sign has surged after a visitor from Oregon shared a photo of it on Facebook and expressed concerns about its perceived exclusivity. The initial post gained significant traction before it was eventually removed.
While some individuals support the message conveyed by the sign, others have criticized the person who shared the photograph and shared their perspectives. Nonetheless, local business owners have rallied behind Scheunemann’s decision to display the sign, asserting that patrons are free to leave the restaurant if they do not agree with its principles.
The residents of Kewaskum, a small town, seem to accept the sign as an expression of the owner’s beliefs and values. Dairy Queen officially stated that Scheunemann’s approach is not endorsed by the corporation and that the sign represents the views of this particular franchise owner. The company emphasized that regardless of a customer’s religious beliefs, all franchisees and employees are required to treat them with respect and dignity.
