Circus lion was locked up for 20 long years, now watch his reaction when he’s released
As much as I love animals, it’s clear that a mature mountain lion shouldn’t be confined to the back of a pickup truck.
Unfortunately, Mufasa, a mountain lion, was forcibly kept in such conditions.
Mufasa’s life became a living nightmare during his time as a touring circus act in Peru, merely existing to entertain the public and enrich his owner.
Thankfully, a group of compassionate animal lovers intervened and saved him.
Despite recent improvements in the treatment of animals, many are still mistreated and neglected in zoos, circuses, and other entertainment venues. Thousands of needy animals continue to endure cramped conditions and are denied the chance to live fulfilling lives.
In Peru, a shocking discovery was made: a pickup truck containing a chained mountain lion named Mufasa. Forced into a life he never chose, he spent twenty years confined to this vehicle.
Mufasa was fortunate to find luck later in life. After months of tireless efforts, Animal Defenders International, an organization dedicated to animal rights, successfully secured his release in 2015. While attempting to shut down an entire Peruvian circus, they stumbled upon him.
With his newfound freedom, Mufasa’s well-being underwent a remarkable transformation. He was granted the fundamental right that all wild creatures deserve: the opportunity to spend his remaining years in the embrace of nature and on his own terms, free from the shackles of fear and persecution.

After spending a few precious months enjoying freedom following his rescue from the circus, Mufasa’s health began to decline.
The twenty years of being tethered to the back of a pickup truck had exacted a heavy toll on him, leading to kidney failure and other age-related issues. According to Animal Defenders International, he passed away in 2015.
Nevertheless, his story serves as a poignant reminder of an important issue.
Mufasa was a beautiful and gentle creature who found solace in having his back scratched. While it’s regrettable that he couldn’t spend more time in the Amazon, his natural habitat, it would have been even more tragic if he had never experienced freedom.
