Celebrities with Rarely-Seen Kids You Possibly Didn’t Know About
Jamie Lee Curtis, known for her roles in films like “Perfect,” had always dreamt of having children. However, after marrying her husband, comedy director Christopher Guest, the couple faced challenges with infertility for several years.
After facing challenges with infertility, Jamie Lee Curtis and her husband Christopher Guest turned to adoption to fulfill their dream of having a family. The decision to adopt was driven by their desire for a complete family. In 1986, just two years into their marriage, they welcomed their daughter Annie through an open adoption. However, their journey to expand their family further took an unexpected turn when they welcomed their second child, Ruby (formerly Thomas), into their lives.
Curtis shared that a unique set of circumstances led to Ruby’s adoption, including her participation in the birth ceremony, cutting the umbilical cord, and being the first person to hold Ruby. Reflecting on the experience, she expressed how profoundly it impacted her, stating:
“I felt like I had truly lived a full life. The birth of my daughter changed me in ways I couldn’t have imagined.”
With her two children, she finally felt that her family was complete. However, she was unprepared for the shock of her daughter coming out as transgender. Named Tom at birth, Ruby began grappling with her gender identity at 16 when a friend questioned her gender.
Although she initially responded by identifying as male, the idea lingered. Despite always feeling different, a negative therapy experience led her to suppress her feelings. Seven years later, she confided in her girlfriend that she might be transgender, and her partner assured her of unconditional love.
Accepting herself was easier than coming out to her parents. Despite her fears, Ruby trusted that her parents, who had always been accepting, would support her. She recalled:
“It was scary—revealing something about myself they didn’t know. But I wasn’t afraid. They had always embraced me.”
In 2020, she planned to share her secret with her parents at their Los Angeles home but couldn’t. Instead, she left, texted her mother, and confessed. Tears were shed. While Curtis fully embraces Ruby, she and her husband still struggle with the correct pronouns.
Fortunately, Ruby understands and doesn’t hold it against them, seeing it as part of their learning journey. Despite their mistakes, Curtis remains steadfastly supportive. Following Ruby’s engagement to Kynthia in 2021, she was ecstatic about their May 2022 cosplay wedding.
Curtis eagerly announced her intention to officiate the wedding in cosplay attire, which she ordered from Etsy. Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel, she revealed plans for a backyard ceremony, reminiscent of her older daughter Annie’s wedding three years earlier, with a picnic setting:
On May 29, 2022, Ruby and Kynthia exchanged vows in cosplay costumes. Ruby dressed as Squigly from the mobile game “Skullgirls,” while Kynthia dressed as Elphelt Valentine from “Guilty Gear.”
Jamie Lee Curtis, dressed as “World of Warcraft”‘s Jaina Proudmoore, shared stunning photos of the celebration on her Instagram. In one photo, she captioned it with the words: “WIFE IS SWEET!” alongside the names Ruby and Kynthia and the wedding date. The renowned actress maintains a close relationship with her private and adult daughter.
