Mom of rare twins with Down syndrome show how beautiful and precious they are to shut down critics

The probability of conceiving twins surged by 72% between 1980 and 2018, yet they remain relatively uncommon. Approximately 33 out of every 1,000 births result in twins.

Now, what about identical twins? There are roughly three or four sets of identical twins for every 1,000 births, making them not particularly common.

Savannah Combs, a 23-year-old woman, was elated to learn that she was expecting twins. However, she later discovered that both twins had Down syndrome, adding to the rarity of her situation.

Naturally, the news was distressing for Savannah and Justin Ackerman. They understood that some people might pass judgment on them and their children because of their situation.

Nevertheless, Savannah finds immense value in her children because of this.

“They’ve been my little gems,” she expressed to News4JAX, emphasizing the uniqueness and specialness of her twins despite their rare condition.

Savannah, hailing from Middleburg, Florida, shared videos of her postpartum journey on TikTok featuring her kids Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman, which quickly gained popularity.

In one of her videos, Savannah revealed that she had been advised to consider aborting her children because it was believed they wouldn’t survive. Despite the challenging prognosis, she made the heartfelt choice to keep them and give them a chance at life.

“Every prenatal appointment they were alive was a blessing to me,” Savannah conveyed, highlighting the profound gratitude she felt for each moment of their development.

Her spouse was away at boot camp when she received the news that both children had Down syndrome, adding another layer of complexity to their journey.

“They’re called mono di twins, meaning that they had their own sacs, but they shared the same placenta, indicating that they were going to be identical,” she explained.

“Mo di twins as it is, it’s very rare. And then you throw Down syndrome on top of it, it’s like one in 2 million.”

Despite their unique condition, Savannah emphasized that they are just like any other child.

“They have feelings. They have a beating heart. They know how to talk. They know how to do things you do. They will get there,” she affirmed.

“Like I said, it may be a step behind, but they’re going to do it. I’ve learned these kids are feisty little things and happy little things.”

As each child continues to reach their milestones, Savannah joyfully shares their adorable updates on TikTok.

“I’m going to let them know that they’re just like us, and they’re going to get there as long as they put their minds to it.”

Still, some individuals feel compelled to criticize Savannah and her family. Consequently, the young mom has had to respond to insensitive users on social media.

“I wouldn’t want those babies; if mine came out like that, they would be straight up for adoption,” one person wrote to the mother.

However, Savannah had the perfect response, which she shared on Facebook.

“I said, good thing they weren’t born to you and were born to me. God knew what he was doing by giving these babies to the right parents who would love them regardless.”
