I’m Positive You Will Not Know What This Is. Go Ahead And Prove Me Wrong (If You Can)
I bet you’re curious about something most people don’t recognize. Take a shot and prove me wrong! Read on to find out.
Ever heard of a meat grinder? Also known as a “meat mincer” in the UK, this handy kitchen appliance is designed for mincing (fine chopping) and/or mixing raw or cooked meat, fish, vegetables, or similar food items. It’s a convenient replacement for traditional tools like the mincing knife.
Here’s how it works: You place the food to be minced into a funnel atop the grinder. From there, it enters a horizontal screw conveyor, which can be operated by hand-cranking or powered by an electric motor. The screw conveyor squashes and mixes the food. Finally, the minced food exits the machine through a fixed plate, the fineness of which depends on the size of the holes in the plate.
The concept of the meat grinder dates back to the nineteenth century when Karl Drais invented the first one. Initially hand-cranked, it forced meat into a metal plate with several small holes, resulting in long, thin strands of meat.
As electricity became more accessible, manufacturers developed powered machines. Modern electric meat grinders can effortlessly process several pounds of meat, offering uniformity and convenience. Some models even come with attachments for sausage-making, kibbe, and juicing, expanding their versatility and usage. Fascinating, isn’t it?
