So, for the first time in 5 years of treatment I’ve finally lost my hair. This for me was the hardest mentally and I lost it in handfuls on the plane to the U.S. I’m feeling better about it now, brave enough to post this picture. Please be kind đ„°đ
DAUGHTER RIPS WIG OFF A GIRL WITH CANCER, FATHER FORCES HER TO SHAVE HER HAIR AS PUNISHMENT
As parents, we endeavor to instill in our children the ability to discern right from wrong, yet we often falter due to various circumstances. Recently, a father learned that his daughter had been bullying a classmate who was battling cancer.
The situation escalated to the point where she forcibly removed the girl’s wig. Enraged by his daughter’s actions, the father opted to address the issue himself, sparking both controversy and a myriad of responses online with his chosen method of discipline.
The father eventually deleted the post following criticism for his handling of the situation involving his daughter’s bullying behavior.
âI share custody of our 16-year-old daughter with my ex-wife, who has since moved on with her new family⊠Recently, my daughter got into trouble at school for mocking a student who lost her hair due to cancer treatment, even pulling off her wig,â he began his post.
âThere seems to be some underlying tension between them, exacerbated by the fact that my daughter is now dating the other girlâs ex-boyfriend.”
“At some point, the other girl accused my daughter’s boyfriend of using her for sex (which was surprising to me as I had no knowledge of her being sexually active) and called my daughter a derogatory term,â the father shared.
“This escalated the conflict and led to the incident with the wig. Apparently, they have been having ongoing arguments in class ever since my daughter started dating this boy. It’s essentially typical teenage drama.”
Upon learning about the incident, the father presented his daughter with two options in an attempt to impart a lesson. The first option was to have all her electronics confiscated, while the second was to visit a salon and have her head shaved bald. The daughter chose the latter and attended school with a shaven head.
ââŠMany believe I went too far. Her mother was furious, fearing it would make our daughter a target for further bullying (which was partly the intention, to instill empathy),â the father noted.
While the father believed he acted appropriately, his actions received widespread criticism. One commenter remarked, âYour daughter is displaying bullying behavior because you are endorsing it. This might not be the first time you’ve resorted to humiliation and abuse to âteach her a lesson.ââ
Another commenter added, âWhat you did constitutes child abuse. Taking away her electronics or grounding her would have been suitable punishments. Disregarding her bodily autonomy and humiliating her was not appropriate. It’s unlikely to teach her anything and could perpetuate a cycle of bullying.â
Nevertheless, there were also individuals who commended his approach to parenting. “I fully endorse your decision. As her parent, you have complete authority to take this step; it’s not abusive, it reflects real-life consequences. If she feels entitled to attack someone for circumstances beyond their control, she needs to comprehend the ramifications,” voiced one supporter of the father.
“Experiencing the impact of her actions on the victim will impart a crucial lesson to her,” added another supporter.
