ROSEANNE BARR HAS STAYED AWAY FROM THE SPOTLIGHT FOR SEVERAL YEARS AFTER THE SCANDALOUS CANCELATION OF THE “ROSEANNE” REBOOT.” THE DETAILS ARE IN THE COMMENTS BELOW.

Roseanne Barr’s revival of her iconic sitcom faced cancellation following a contentious tweet by the veteran comedian, derailing all production plans. Subsequently, she attributed the downfall to her co-star Sara Gilbert, claiming her actions had disrupted her life.

Roseanne Barr’s eponymous comedy series, “Roseanne,” enjoyed immense popularity during the 1990s, cementing her name in the hearts of countless fans.

Two decades following the conclusion of the original series, ABC Studios revived it. Following a premiere that shattered records, the network announced plans for a second season.

Following Barr’s shockingly racist tweet targeting Valerie Jarrett, an African-American woman who had served as a senior advisor to President Barack Obama, the show faced immediate cancellation.

Despite issuing an apology for her controversial tweet, Barr took a surprising turn by placing blame on actress Sara Gilbert for the show’s demise, accusing her co-star of ruining her life.

“Roseanne” Reboot Comes to an End In 1998, ABC premiered “Roseanne,” a sitcom that quickly ascended to the pinnacle of television, solidifying its place as one of the era’s finest series.

Featuring a stellar cast including John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf, the groundbreaking show delved into the everyday lives of working-class Middle America.

After its successful nine-season run, “Roseanne” concluded with widespread critical acclaim, launching the careers of numerous actors associated with the series.

In 2017, ABC announced the revival of “Roseanne” to the delight of fans worldwide, with original cast members reprising their iconic roles from the 90s. The debut episode of the reboot attracted an impressive 27 million viewers, marking it as the highest-rated new TV series in years.

Just three days later, ABC confirmed the renewal of “Roseanne” for another season, slated to feature a 13-episode run.

However, the show’s trajectory took a sharp turn when Barr, its central figure, posted a racist tweet targeting Valerie Jarrett, a senior advisor to President Barack Obama, with the following derogatory statement:

“if Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”

Her tweet sparked widespread criticism, leading to accusations of racism and the eventual cancellation of the revived “Roseanne” series by ABC Network.

Blaming Others Following the cancellation, Bob Iger, a director at ABC, personally apologized to Valerie Jarrett on behalf of the network. Barr subsequently deleted her tweet about Jarrett and issued an apology, expressing regret for her inappropriate joke regarding Jarrett’s politics and appearance:

“I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a distasteful joke about her politics and appearance. I should have exercised better judgment. Please forgive me.”

Barr attributed the controversial tweet to the late hour of 2 a.m. and the influence of a sedative she had taken before sleeping. While acknowledging that the sleep aid could affect mood and behavior, she admitted that her words had crossed a line, acknowledging her mistake.

A year and a half later, Barr shifted blame for the show’s cancellation, pointing fingers at co-star Sara Gilbert. Gilbert had denounced Barr’s comments about Jarrett, expressing disappointment in her actions. Barr accused Gilbert’s tweet of contributing to the show’s demise, claiming it had “destroyed her life” and severed ties between them.

Gilbert, however, defended herself, expressing her disappointment and heartbreak over the cancellation while affirming her enduring familial bond with Barr.

Life After Controversy Following the scandal, Barr withdrew from the public eye for a couple of years. She resurfaced on Instagram, sharing a photo of herself feeling positive and looking vibrant in a leopard print dress adorned with red roses, posing outside her home in Hawaii.

She currently resides in Hawaii with her partner Johnny Argent, whom she met online in 2002 during a writing competition on her blog. Barr remains active on YouTube, where she delves into conspiracy theories and hosts interviews with fellow theorists and comedians.

Family Life Away from the limelight, Barr is a mother to five children. Her journey into motherhood began in 1981 when she gave birth to her first child, Brandi Brown, whom she later gave up for adoption before marrying Bill in 1974.

The couple subsequently welcomed their first daughter, Jessica, in 1975, followed by their second daughter, Jennifer, in 1976, and their youngest son, Jake, in 1978.

In 1988, Barr reunited with her first daughter, Brown, after enlisting the help of a private investigator to locate her.

However, just two years later, in 1990, Barr and her husband separated after 16 years of marriage. Afterward, she became romantically involved with Tom Arnold, but they split after four years without having children together.

In 1995, Barr married her third husband, Ben Thomas, and expanded her family with the arrival of her youngest child, son Buck. She and Thomas divorced in 2002, after which the actress focused on caring for her children.

The family faced controversy when Barr’s third daughter, Jenny Pentland, published a memoir titled “This Will Be Funny Later,” in which she revealed that the ABC series “Roseanne” was inspired by their family.

Pentland explained that her mother portrayed a fictionalized version of herself in the series, while the characters of Darlene and DJ were based on her sister Jessica and her brother Jake.

Pentland also disclosed that their family’s tumultuous experiences were omitted from the show’s later seasons, and she detailed her and her sister Jessica’s time in reform schools and psychiatric institutions during their teenage years.

However, she emphasized that writing her book was a form of self-imposed therapy and helped her empathize with her parents’ perspective.

Her Grandchildren A few months after the show’s cancellation, Barr revealed that the most significant change since its departure was the addition of her seven grandchildren, with whom she now spends a considerable amount of time.

The veteran star explained that the birth of her grandchildren has inspired her to encourage her children to prioritize proper treatment of their own kids.
